Red Tractor Week 2016

Added 02 Sep 2016
Red Tractor is launching its biggest ever promotion designed to give food shoppers a taste of what it is like to live close to where their food comes from. Fronted by farmer and Rural TV presenter Adam Henson, it will connect shoppers to the key UK harvest period of September to November, when farms will be buzzing with activity.
Red Tractor Food Assurance is giving away a Premier Cottages UK mini break worth £300 every day for 10 weeks, coinciding with the start of Red Tractor Week on September 12th. The Premier Cottages collection is made up of nearly 1000 luxury 4* and 5* self-catering cottages across the UK, ranging from romantic boltholes to opulent party houses.
The Red Tractor logo is a vital signpost for shoppers looking to buy quality UK food. Adam Henson, Red Tractor ambassador comments, “Living and working on a farm is the hardest, wonderful and rewarding thing I have ever done and I want people to continue supporting all our farmers. Visiting the Red Tractor website is a great opportunity for people to understand the standards behind UK farming and food preparation. If you win one of the daily holiday prizes you also get to stay in the wonderful UK countryside and see where much of our UK food comes from.”
During Red Tractor Week, UK farmers up and down the country will also be talking to shoppers outside major supermarkets, explaining about where UK food comes from and the standards that are used to produce them. This means they can trust the food they feed their family if they buy products backed by the Red Tractor logo.
That’s because it ensures food and drink is traceable, safe to eat and has good standards of animal welfare.
Environment Secretary Andrea Leadsom said “Whether it’s beef from the hills and pastures of the West Country or Yorkshire’s famed Wensleydale cheese, British food is renowned around the globe for its quality, innovation and tradition. The Red Tractor logo is an iconic symbol of this – assuring shoppers that their food is traceable, safe to eat and produced responsibly. It’s wonderful to see our world-leading food and farming industry joining forces to encourage everyone to shop smart and support British farmers.”
This is Red Tractor’s biggest on-pack promotion to date and its goal of highlighting the importance of food standards remains crucial at a time of heightened awareness around food sourcing. For the first time ever, promotional stickers will be on an extensive range of Red Tractor products in major supermarkets, including meat and poultry, dairy, cereals and fruit & vegetables.
RTA marketing manager, Andy Thompson, said: “This has the potential to be the biggest on-pack promotion in the UK, appearing on £millions worth of quality assured foods. Increasing understanding of what Red Tractor standards represent remains crucial at a time of heightened awareness around food sourcing.”
On pack stickers, giving shoppers the chance to win £300 of Premier Cottages UK mini break vouchers (one prize a day for 70 days), will be found on Red Tractor assured products in all of Britain’s major supermarkets. To find out whether they have won, shoppers simply have to visit the Red Tractor website, where they will find out more about the Red Tractor scheme as well as being notified whether they are a winner.
