For two decades we have continuously strived for improvements in farming and production standards.  By working with experts in their fields, we have become the UK’s largest assured food and farming standards scheme and are the only programme to cover the length of the supply chain for pigs, poultry, beef & lamb, dairy, fresh produce and crops. The standards that we set have had a fundamental role in rebuilding consumer trust and leading the transformation of British Farming after the spate of food scares in the 1990’s

The four pillars of Red Tractor standards are:

Animal Welfare
Environmental Protection
Food Safety
Traceability

Each of our agriculture sectors has around 160 individual standards. That’s over 1,000 standards, 46,000 farmers members, compliant 365 days a year.

HOW WE DO IT

Red Tractor employs independent companies to undertake inspections. These companies are outside of industry influence and are impartial. Teams of assessors perform more than 60,000 checks every year across the supply chain to safeguard how animals are tended to, how fresh produce is grown and how our standards are being followed from farm to pack for food and drinks that carry our logo in stores and restaurants.

TELL US

If you encounter any issues around compliance to our standards or the law, the most effective way to raise a concern is with a member of the Red Tractor Team directly.  Openness makes it easier for Red Tractor to assess the issue, obtain more information and thoroughly investigate the matter.

However, we know that people sometimes feel worried about doing this, so we have employed an external company, Safecall, to manage an independent confidential TELL US web reporting service. You can file an anonymous report on their website.

Should you wish to file a report this way, in order for us to effectively investigate, we have to have at the very least the following information:
Name of farm/business, town/ location of the farm, the type of farm - whether it is poultry, dairy, livestock (beef and lamb), pigs, crops or fresh produce, the date of the incident and the specific claims.

Please note that we can only investigate non-compliance issues relating to Red Tractor Standards and membership.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

After a complaint is received, Safecall compiles a report of the allegation and passes it on to a nominated manager for investigation.

Even if the complainant is anonymous, through Safecall’s web-based reporting platform, we are able to commit to:

  • Acknowledging receipt of a complaint within one working day.
  • Providing an update on the complaint within 7 days.
  • Aim to conclude initial investigations within 21 days of receiving the complaint.
