Livestock Market and Collection Centre Standards
The Red Tractor Assurance scheme for livestock markets and collection centres has standards that encompass food safety, hygiene, animal welfare and environmental protection. The basic welfare needs of animals must not be compromised at any stage of their lives. Consumers want to know where their food comes from and so animals need to be identifiable and traceable back to their farms of origin and handled at all time in conditions which mean it is free from contamination and safe to eat.
Livestock markets and collection centres are an integral link in the Assurance chain for livestock (following on from the assured farm and assured transport). The Red Tractor Assurance Livestock Market and Collection Centre standard focuses on ensuring that the traceability of the products continues and that animal welfare is maintained throughout the duration at the market or collection centre.
