Strengthening the Red Tractor Assurance standards under a single mark

Red Tractor Assurance has completed a major Harmonisation project to deliver a more joined up approach to the individual Red Tractor Farm Assurance schemes. From 1st April 2010, farmers and growers began to implement these newly aligned standards across all sectors.

Promotion of assured food to consumers using the Red Tractor logo is getting an ever-increasing profile and it is obvious that all Red Tractor Assurance standards should include the same core values. However, many of the sector schemes developed separately during the 1990s, which led to differences in terminology, layout and content. The Harmonisation project brought these differences into line.

The result is that Red Tractor Assurance launched the updated standards to coincide with the normal periodic review to take account of changes in the law, scientific evidence, and market drivers. The new design of the manuals now includes coding to highlight the more important standards, additional information to help producers understand the requirements and greater consistency in the rules and procedures across sectors.
